Client: The Information Commissioner of Canada (OIC) is an independent ombudsperson and an Officer of the Parliament of Canada. The office assists individuals and organizations who believe that federal institutions have not respected their rights under the Access to Information Act (ATIA).

Project summary: The OIC was in the process of gaining more power due to legislative changes. This was the driver to launch a new and improved OIC website.

Ngage’s Impact: The organization chose the award-winning Ngage team to develop their new site because of their strong focus on building user-centred digital solutions. The team took the OIC through a rigorous process to define their organizational web needs and the needs of their audience and stakeholders. This resulted in a strategic approach that focused on ensuring an easy and engaging site for OIC’s audiences.

The team then defined the content and functionality that would be required to support the proposed approach. They also architected an automated appliance to support the Commissioner’s rulings called the decision database. The site was programmed in Drupal 9 and was done to conform to all of TBS’ standards (Web Accessibility, Web Usability and Web Interoperability) and the site was WCAG AA compliant.

Result: The OIC site was launched to much fanfare. The Commissioner was delighted by the dynamic and highly usable approach taken. The OIC team has seen an improvement in the traffic coming to the site as well as the browsability and digestibility of the site.
